HOW TO USE

The various contours of the gua sha can be used for different areas on the face or body. We'll focus on the face but before you start using your gua sha please do the following:
– wash your gua sha with warm soapy water, rinse and dry
– wash your hands thoroughly & cleanse your face
– apply your facial oil to your face & neck. We’d recommend applying the same amount of facial oil you’d usually apply to moisturise your face – you can always add more if needed. This will enable the gua sha to glide without pulling at the skin.

Please do watch our video demonstrating how best to use your gua sha. But here a few simple steps for you to read as well:
We like to start from the neck up:
Neck & throat: Using longer side of the gua sha is perfect from gliding on your neck and under your chin.
The double edged notched side can cup the muscles that run on either side of your neck from your jaw down to your collarbone (sternocleidomastoid muscle). Then glid out from the middle of the throat out towards the ears.
Moving on to the jawline: once again use the double edged notched side to slide along your jaw line to the ear.
Just above the jaw line gently flicking along towards the ear to create small vibrations. This is calling strumming.
If desired next place the gua sha in spots around the ear – stopping in 4 places around the ear and wiggle the gua sha to create small vibrations.
Then move onto your cheeks, holding the guasha so you get as much of the flat surface against your cheek – an stroke from the nose to the ear.
Next use the double edged notched side to glide from the side of your nose along your cheek bone.
Moving back to using the flat side, very gently under your eyes- paying extra attention not to drag the delicate skin.
Once again using the double edged notched side to glide over your eye brow.
Finally – your forehead, holding the gua sha so that you can use the flat side, gliding from the bottom of your forehead to the top.

Please note that your skin may become a little red during and after use because the blood flow is being stimulated. This should not last for longer than 10-15 minutes and the redness will fade. However, it should never hurt. Applying too much pressure can result in sore and bruised skin. We recommend using the gua sha for approximately 5 minutes per session and it can be used 2-3 times per week.

Caring for your gua sha

In order to keep your gua sha free from bacteria, wash with warm soapy water after every use. The oil you use on your skin when using the gua sha should help keep it from drying out but we do recommend applying oil to it as well to keep it from drying out.
