What are facial scrubs and what are the benefits?

Facial scrubs are exfoliators that help remove dead skin cells and impurities from the surface of the skin. At Heavenly Organics Skin Care, we make our facial scrubs with fine-grain unrefined sea salt and soothing kaolin clay. The fine salt gently exfoliates, while the kaolin clay helps draw out impurities and excess oil.

Our scrubs leave the skin feeling clean, soft and refreshed, while the kaolin clay also helps soothe the skin.

How do I use a facial scrub and how often?

We recommend shaking the scrub well before use and putting approximately one teaspoon into a bowl. We then add a very small amount of water and mix it into a medium-to-thick paste. Only a tiny amount of water is needed. It is important not to use a metal bowl or spoon as the clay can react with metal (we offer beautiful wooden bowls that are ideal for this use).

We apply the paste to a dry face and gently massage it in circular movements before rinsing thoroughly and patting the skin dry. The scrub should be mixed immediately before use. A mixed paste should not be stored to use at a later date as microbial growth could occur.

We suggest using a facial scrub as part of your regular skincare routine, but avoiding excessive exfoliation. If your skin is particularly sensitive, we recommend using it less frequently and seeing how your skin responds. You may also wish to make the paste with a  little more water.

What makes HOSC facial scrubs different from others?

At Heavenly Organics Skin Care, we keep our facial scrubs simple. Rather than using a ready-made wet formula, our scrubs come as a dry powder, so we mix only the amount we need with water immediately before use.

We use fine-grain sea salt because it provides a gentler exfoliation than coarse sea salt, combined with soft, mineral-rich kaolin clay. Our facial scrubs are also vegan and made with carefully selected natural ingredients. We believe in using just a few simple yet effective ingredients rather than a whole long list.

What ingredients are in the facial scrubs?

Our facial scrub base is made from just two ingredients: unrefined sea salt and kaolin (white clay). The sea salt we use is Soil Association certified, while our kaolin clay is sourced in the UK.

For our scented varieties, we add selected organic essential oils. These include tea tree, lavender, cedarwood, rose geranium, and orange and grapefruit.

We also offer an unscented version containing only sea salt and kaolin clay.

Are HOSC facial scrubs suitable for sensitive skin?

We formulate our scrubs to provide gentle exfoliation, using fine-grain sea salt rather than coarse salt and soothing kaolin clay. Our Unscented Facial Scrub is specifically ideal for people who are sensitive to essential oils.

However, everyone’s skin is different. We recommend being particularly gentle when exfoliating sensitive skin and stopping use if irritation occurs. Our scrubs should not be used on broken or damaged skin or around the eyes and mucous membranes.
